A Milestone for Women’s Cricket Officiating
As the cricketing world turns its attention toward England and Wales for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a landmark decision regarding the tournament’s officiating. On May 28, 2026, the governing body unveiled an entirely female lineup of 18 match officials, marking the third consecutive edition of the tournament where an all-women panel will oversee the proceedings.
The tournament, which is scheduled to run from June 12 to July 5, 2026, will feature 12 nations competing for the ultimate prize. With the teams divided into two groups, the intensity is expected to be at an all-time high. Group A includes Australia, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands, while Group B features Ireland, Scotland, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies.
Significant Indian Representation
Indian cricket fans have extra reason to cheer, as four Indian officials have been named to this prestigious list. Leading the contingent is experienced match referee GS Lakshmi, who continues to be a pivotal figure in international officiating. Joining the roster of umpires are Vrinda Rathi and Janani N., both of whom have earned their spots through consistent performances at the domestic and international levels. Additionally, Gayathri Venugopalan is set to make her tournament debut, representing a significant career milestone.
These four officials form part of a diverse and highly skilled group tasked with maintaining the integrity of the game during the high-voltage clashes, including the highly anticipated India versus Pakistan encounter at Edgbaston on June 14.
A Blend of Experience and Rising Talent
The 2026 edition of the T20 World Cup will see a healthy mix of seasoned veterans and debutants. While nine officials have been retained from the successful 2024 edition, four newcomers are set to make their tournament debuts: Shathira Jakir Jesy, Kerrin Klaaste, Candace La Borde, and Gayathri Venugopalan. Their inclusion signifies the ICC’s commitment to nurturing new talent.
On the other end of the spectrum, the panel includes world-class veterans. Australian umpire Claire Polosak is preparing for her sixth World Cup appearance, while Jacquline Williams and Kim Cotton are marking their fifth. This blend of experience ensures that the tournament remains in capable hands.
