Dhruv Jurel, Dasun Shanaka Bring Pakistan-Level Cricket To Mumbai

The IPL clash between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium on May 24 turned into one of the most dramatic matches of IPL 2026.

Rajasthan Royals Start Strong Against Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bowl first in the afternoon encounter. At first, the decision appeared risky as Rajasthan opener Yashasvi Jaiswal attacked the bowlers from the very beginning. The left-handed batter played fearless cricket and scored a rapid 27 runs.

However, Mumbai slowly fought back into the contest. Will Jacks removed Jaiswal at a crucial stage. Soon after that, young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi departed for only four runs. The momentum started shifting towards Mumbai Indians as Rajasthan Royals suddenly found themselves under pressure.

Mumbai Indians Bounce Back Strongly

With wickets falling regularly, Rajasthan captain Riyan Parag had the responsibility to steady the innings. Nevertheless, his stay at the crease remained short as Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar dismissed him for 14 runs from just eight balls.

At 54/3, Rajasthan Royals desperately needed a partnership. This brought Dhruv Jurel and Dasun Shanaka together at the crease. Both batters started positively and looked comfortable against the Mumbai bowlers. Their partnership slowly rebuilt the innings and gave Rajasthan hope once again.

Shanaka, in particular, looked dangerous with his attacking stroke play. Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel focused on rotating the strike and supporting his partner.

The biggest talking point of the match arrived during the 11th over. The incident reminded many fans of the kind of dramatic run-out confusion often associated with Pakistan cricket.

A short delivery from Corbin Bosch was pushed towards backward point by Dhruv Jurel. Initially, Dhruv Jurel stepped out for a single. At the same time, Dasun Shanaka charged quickly from the non-striker’s end. However, Dhruv Jurel suddenly changed his mind after noticing the fielder moving towards the ball.

Unfortunately, Dasun Shanaka had already committed fully to the run. Both batters ended up at the same side of the pitch, creating complete confusion in the middle.

Shardul Thakur briefly fumbled while collecting the ball. Even then, he recovered quickly and threw the ball towards the bowler’s end. Bosch also struggled slightly while gathering the throw. Still, he managed to remove the bails in time.

As a result, Dasun Shanaka’s entertaining innings came to an unfortunate end. The Sri Lankan all-rounder walked back after scoring a valuable 29 runs from just 15 balls. Notably, Rajasthan Royals lost their fourth wicket at an important stage and slipped to 100/4.

The wicket gave Mumbai Indians fresh energy on the field, while Rajasthan struggled to rebuild their innings again. Since the match carried playoff importance, every mistake became even more costly.
